Improving Life – The Design of Swedish Innovations @ the National Museum, Singapore

With the recent official opening of the National Museum in Singapore, Singaporeans and tourists have another exciting place to visit. The museum is a superb blend of ancient and modern architectural styles. The new extension Glass Rotunda features a drum which functions as an entrance to many galleries. At night, the drum is a piece of art whereby it lights up into a “lantern” with images shone on the exterior. Another interesting feature is the Glass Passage, which not only links the two buildings for visitors’ convenience, but is also one of the world’s largest self-supporting glass structures. Pursuant to its modernistic theme, the museum is introducing interesting exhibitions and events related to lifestyle, food and fashion that visitors would be able to relate to and find their visit an enriching one.

The Swedish Innovation is one exhibition which visitors would indubitably find interesting. It is jointly organized by Svensk Form (The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design) and the National Museum of Singapore. It showcase a collection of 65 innovations which has improved and changed our lives – many of which we have taken for granted. The Swedish works represents four main ideas of the Swedish culture – Innovative, Competitive, Open and Caring.

Why not make a trip to the museum this weekend? Viewing the Swedish Innovations within the modern glass façade would be an inspiring experience.

Inkjet Printer or Inkjet Photo Printer

Which printer should I get – an inkjet printer or an inkjet photo printer?

Here are some factors that you need to consider while choosing an inkjet printer.

  • General purpose printer:
    • Produces pages of sharp text quickly, even at small point sizes.
    • Usually, cost less than an inkjet photo printer.
    • Advances in technology have enabled many general-purpose inkjet printers to also produce outstanding photographs.
  • Photo printer:
    • Uses more ink for smoother color gradations.
    • Most have LCD preview screens, memory card slots and PictBridge compatibility that lets you bypass your computer altogether when printing photos.
    • Some of these photo printers might allow you to do some basic editing on the built-in LCD.
    • However, not all printers with the word “photo” in their name are photo printers. Some are merely a general-purpose printer with a few photo features, such as direct printing from digital cameras or the ability to make borderless prints.

With inkjet photo printer being more affordable now, it is more ideal to get an inkjet photo printer in order to achieve optimal results for those memorable pictures.

What should I take note of when I buy a printer?

  • Cheaper cartridges hold less ink than others.
  • Other cartridges cost more because they contain fresh print heads and more ink.
  • Individual ink cartridges are more cost effective and less wasteful than those that hold several different colors.
  • Multi-color cartridges tend to run out of one color sooner than the rest, causing a cartridge that still has ink in its other wells to be discarded.
  • Printer consumables – ink and papers are costly as these are where printer manufacturers’ make more money from. After replacing your ink cartridges a couple of times, you’ve spent more than the cost of the printer.

So the next time before throwing your old cartridge in the trash, you might want to consider refilling and reuse your existing cartridges with Inke Refills Services. Besides saving up to 70%, you are helping to reduce waste too. With your cartridges being refilled with Inke, you can now print more quality photos at home!
